Usually I use photographs in Photoshop and play around and see how the mood can changed. And the right effect may happen sometimes spontaneously. Here the tool was Curves. No special instruction was read before. Basically, just sense of concept and playing around with curve. Those pictures were used in flash animation. They were cut, to give the image graphic, dynamic effect.
